The Mission of Second Step

Nathan Hale Elementary School is focusing on the award-winning social skills program referred to as "Second Step". Over 20 to 30 weeks, students in NHES are learning key social skills through Second Step that will help them solve conflicts on their own, without aggression or violence. Social skills programs like Second Step are among the most effective means for preventing youth violence. In addition, we are promoting key lessons from this curriculum for use by parents and community members who work with youth through parent education classes and a community education campaign. By working together, we can better support Hale’s youth as they learn more positive ways of dealing with anger and conflict in their lives.
